Friends for Youth welcomes new staff

Vanessa recently relocated to Northern California from Central Ohio, although she is originally from Bakersfield. She earned her BA from University of the Pacific in Spanish with minors in French and Ethnic Studies. Since then, she has worked as an advocate for underrepresented individuals in the educational, legal, and medical fields. She’s thrilled to be joining Friends for Youth and hopes her unique background will assist her in becoming a great Program Coordinator.

In her free time she enjoys comedy, foreign film/language, all things vegan, reading, and traveling with her dog. She is looking forward to meeting the Friendships!

Maria is a California native and has been a Bay Area resident for the last 12 years. She has been a volunteer mentor with Friends For Youth since 2009 and has really enjoyed building a friendship with her mentee over the years. She is excited to be a part of Friends For Youth as the new Program Associate.

Her professional background includes working at Google for several years as a Program Manager in Sales, Real Estate, Finance, and HR. She brings a variety of skills and experience to her new role. She obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stanford University and has also been a real estate investor over the last seven years. Maria is involved in her church community at Menlo Park Presbyterian, and she and her husband care for a young daughter and many pets at home.
