Technology & Youth Mentoring Programs

by
As a follow-up to our last annual conference, Youth Mentoring 2.0: Impacts of Technology on Programs and Relationships, and as a prelude to the 2010 Summer Institute on Youth Mentoring at Portland State University focusing on a similar theme, we’re interested in hearing from youth mentoring programs about how they’re using technology and, more specifically, social media and networking within youth services.

If you're staff from a youth mentoring program, take the survey here and add your experience to our report! There is an option at the very end to submit your name to be entered in a raffle prize - $100 in resources from Friends for Youth’s Mentoring Institute (including products or conference registration) or a $25 gift card to Amazon.

Survey closes on August 10, 2010 so don’t delay – take the survey now!

The results will be reported in August during the first of our Mentoring Institute's new monthly FREE Webinar series highlighting important topics for youth mentoring programs.

Peninsula Golf Challenge October 4

by
The Peninsula Golf Challenge is a vital source of support for Friends for Youth. Just as Friends for Youth is committed to excellence in programming for at-risk youth, we strive to make the Peninsula Golf Challenge a prestigious event for our supporters. Limiting the playing field, monitoring the pace of play, assigning Scorekeepers to each group, and providing generous Tee Prize packages are a few of the ways that we stand out.  Dinner, awards ceremony, and silent and live auctions follow 18 holes at the beautiful Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club.  Let us know if you're interested in being a sponsor or prize donor.  You can learn more about playing or register online.  We hope to see you October 4, 2010!

Our new Mentoring Services Recruitment Specialist

by

I am thrilled to be working here at Friends for Youth! Originally from Minneapolis, I have lived in D.C., London, Tacoma and Wyoming. I’ve loved the places I’ve lived, but it’s exciting to learn about a new metropolitan area, especially one as vibrant and diverse as the Bay. As a citizen, I am most concerned about how our national policy affects the most needy in this country. So working with Friends for Youth will help me understand the problems that at-risk youth face everyday. I believe in the importance of ending poverty in America, and I hope my work at Friends for Youth will help!

Junior Friend Visit

by
Junior Friend Iliana dropped by our office the other day with the news that she had gotten all A's in her college courses last semester.  She was also thrilled to have been given an"Oustanding Student" award.  She talked enthusiastically about her plans for a nursing degree, as well as her family and her part-time work.  She was matched in 2003 and remains in touch with her Senior Friend, Jennifer.
