Golfing for charity

Beautiful weather greeted 90 golfers who teed off at the Friends for Youth 21st annual Peninsula Golf Challenge, held Oct. 6 at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club in Menlo Park.
Mitch Juricich, creator and co-host of Hooked on Golf, conducted a successful live auction during the dinner that followed for 120 attendees. A total of $50,000 was raised for the Friends for Youth program.
The program serves youths, ages 8 to 17, throughout the Peninsula. Each youth is matched with a mentor who commits to serving as a positive role model for three hours a week for at least one year.
"I really enjoy hanging out with my mentor," said Christian, of Redwood City, who spoke at the event. "She is a good friend to me. We've always had fun!"
