Sports Night A Success

by

Oracle and the Golden State Warriors partnered with Friends for Youth to host a basketball clinic for waitlisted youth in the Mentoring Services program at Club Oracle on Thursday, October 23, 2008.

Player Ronny Turiaf, who recently joined the Warriors as a free agent from the Los Angeles Lakers, and former Warriors head coach and player Al Attles led Friends for Youth mentees and Oracle employees in an intense, yet fun 60-minute basketball clinic. More than 40 volunteers, youth, and staff participated in a warm-up routine, numerous drills, and teambuilding exercises.

Both Mr. Turiaf and Coach Attles signed autographs and took photos with youth on the waiting list after the clinic. The Warriors also presented each youth with a team gift pack.

A crew from NBA Entertainment filmed the action, interviewed attendees, and will create a public service announcement about Oracle’s partnership with Friends for Youth to air during Warriors games this season.

This event was a part of Oracle’s annual Global Volunteer Days in which employees volunteer their time at organized projects supporting Oracle’s Nonprofit Community Partners such as Friends for Youth.

Friends for Youth strives to hold waitlist activities for youth on a quarterly basis so they can enjoy fun and positive activities while they wait to be matched with their mentor.

21st Annual Peninsula Golf Challenge

by

Friends for Youth hosted its 21st Annual Peninsula Golf Challenge on Monday October 6, 2008 at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club in Menlo Park, CA. This is our annual fundraiser.

Mitch Juricich, host of Hooked on Golf, seen on Fox Sports Net Bay Area, as well as heard on 680 KNBR, hosted the festivities. Mitch was well received by the audience and brought along his energy and enthusiasm to this day-long event.

We had 90 players in attendance and raised over $50,000. Prizes were awarded for several categories including the top 6 winning fivesomes. Several packages were auctioned off as well. Steve Dworetzky from South San Francisco won the grand prize, a $2,500 gift card to Pebble Beach.

The Peninsula Golf Challenge is a significant source of support for Friends for Youth.
We worked diligently to make sure that everyone who took part had an unbelievable time.

Thank you to all who participated, and we hope to make next year an even bigger success!
