20th Annual Peninsula Golf Challenge

by

The 20th Annual Peninsula Golf Challenge, held Monday, October 8 at the Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club, was a fun day for participants and volunteers and raised nearly $100,000 for Friends for Youth.
Many Junior & Senior Friends came to help with setting up, blowing up prize balloons, registration, and many other jobs throughout the busy day. Thanks to Senior Friends Bob, Jen, Joris, Judy, Karen, Paula, & Trisha, and friendships David $ Courtnay, Jennifer & Iliana, Lisa $ Pedro, Lorraine $ June, Rob $ RJ, and Sarah $ Belen.
The day started off early with golfers arriving for a special clinic on the "Right-Sided Swing" by Sharon Heights Golf Pro Ray Leach. After a few practice swings and some lunch, the tournament was underway with opportunities to win a Lexus care (sadly no hole-in-one to win it), and a trip to Hawaii won by Derek Bravo for closest-to-the-pin. After a picture perfect day out on the course, golf was followed by and entertainment from the hilarious"Mr. C in Heaven," - the Howard Cosell tribute artist. The silent auction was full of terrific items for bidding, and the many special items in the live auction helped us achieve a record-breaking fundraising event.
Several Friendships spoke during the evening event thanking the attendees for their support of the Friends for Youth program, and also told compelling stories of their friendships and the profound influence they have had on each other's lives. The program came to a close with special thanks to our sponsors, supporters, Board of Directors, Golf Committee, scorekeepers, and staff of Friends for Youth for all the months of planning that lead to such a successful event.
