Fun with Yoga!

by

Recently Friendships spent some time discovering the fun, healthy, and empowering practice of yoga. This lovely Saturday afternoon group activity started with our yoga instructor providing Friendships with a brief introduction to yoga philosophy and a demonstration of some yoga poses, which Friendships then got to experiment with.

After a few yoga poses and some laughs, Friendships got to put on their artist hats to create their own self-empowerment vision boards, which they got to take home. Our thanks to Michelle and Be The Change Yoga & Wellness in San Jose for providing this activity.

SV Gives: Day of Giving, Day of Impact

by

Silicon Valley Gives, our region's first ever Day of Giving took place on May 6, 2014, and thanks to the generosity of our donors, Friends for Youth raised $7,020, which will make a direct impact to our mentoring programming.

In total, Friends for Youth received 39 gifts, most of which will support our mentoring general fund. Funds were also received for our Health & Wellness Support Project, Education & Academic Support Project, Mentoring Matters: Annual Ice Skating Holiday Event for Friendships, and 35th Anniversary Campaign.

"Our community has been well served by SV Gives. Friends for Youth is very appreciative of this opportunity to mobilize our donors and maximize our collective impact. Our sincere thanks to everyone who participated," said Friends for Youth Executive Director Becky Cooper.

Friends for Youth would like to thank the event host, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, lead sponsor Microsoft, and the many philanthropic partners, including the Sobrato Family Foundation, who made SV Gives possible.

Thanks to these philanthropic partners and our very generous donors May 6, 2014, was to date the most impactful 24-hour fundraising and crowdfunding campaign in which Friends for Youth has participated. In addition, we patiently await the results of match funding from SV Gives.

What a day!
